Fairfield Heritage Govan - Fighting for the Right to Work

4th September 2024 2:00 pm

A screening of two archive documentary films covering the momentous and successful Trade Union campaign to secure shipbuilding on the Clyde. This campaign won overwhelming world-wide public support and solidarity forcing a dogmatic government committed to economic free-market doctrines and to the rundown of yards, to do an about turn and concede the workers case.

This was “a struggle like no other before: not a strike, not a work-to-rule, not a sit-in. But a Work-in.”

This event will be introduced by Danny Carrigan, former shipyard worker and Trade Union Official, who will also lead a short discussion on the lessons to be learned from the worker’s victory and consider if these can be carried through into our now much-changed industrial landscape.
