The paper explains the role of a civil engineer in the provision of infrastructure and in the control of safety at major sporting events such as golf club championships.
The duties include the provision of transportation, roads, bridges, parking, grandstands, marquees, catering facilities, water supply and toilets. Crowd safety, fire safety and environmental impact need to be carefully addressed. The critcal issues of leadership and interaction with the client are discussed.
