Engineers Ireland - Flying Robots Over Your House: The Electronics Behind Drone Delivery

5th August 2026 1:00 pm

Description

Topics will include:

  • A look at the physics behind maximum aircraft power consumption, and how that analysis feeds into cable and connector sizing.
  • Designing an auxiliary power system to deploy the parachute after main power loss and keep critical systems alive during main battery changes.
  • Building test rigs to reproduce rare intermittent faults that only appeared once every few thousand operations.
  • Electrical wiring interconnection system design.
  • Cable sizing trade-offs.
  • Connector fretting.
  • The practical realities of designing electronics for aircraft that must operate reliably outdoors, repeatedly, and close to people and property.

About the presenter
